The role of a CEO can be a lonely one. As well as supporting advising on a board, the non-exec needs to be the 'Critical friend' to the CEO, someone they can trust as a sounding board, make sense of initiatives and challenge their thinking.

Sometimes a short term role to help shareholders implement specific changes can be more cost effective than committing to someone permanently or changing the CEO. Not all CEO's can make impactful changes and not all good change leaders make good CEO's.
